      Andrade, Nicoly (2016)
Assuming that “becoming a Christian” is the fundamental theme of S. Kierkegaard’s literary production, the purpose of this essay is to outline the concept of passion set forth in Fear and Trembling as a necessary condition for the realization of the dialectical movements that make possible the development of faith. On the basis of Abraham’s demonstration of faith, the article highlights the importance granted by Johannes de Silentio to passion as the foundation that precedes and constitutes the ultimate faith: that which arises only in the face of the absurd, but which, once attained, reveals itself as a possibility of escaping from the desperation of existence and of giving meaning to human life.

The article addresses Hobbes' political project in the light of Kant's critique as set forth in Theory and Praxis. Specifically, it carries out a detailed discussion of the objection to despotic government, in which the sovereign establishes the happiness of the people as the main objective of the State and, consequently, ends up involuntarily fostering rebellion. In this respect, the article argues that Hobbes' formulation in Leviathan manages to circumvent Kant's reproaches precisely because its peculiar notion of happiness prevents it from being construed as the objective of political society. Likewise, we argue that there is a significant modification of terminology with respect to De Cive, which leads us to consider the possibility that Hobbes may have anticipated the objections discussed.

The first part of this article argues that descriptivism as proposed by Moritz Schlick does not correctly understand the function of moral judgements. The second part argues that emotivism does not provide an adequate explanation of the role of reason in ethics. Finally, the article shows how the universal prescriptivism proposed by R. M. Hare furthers the solution of the problems of emotivism, since it extends the role of reason in ethics and in the resolution of the problems of descriptivism, given that it understands the function of moral judgements in ordinary language

      Cabrera, Celia (2019)
The article seeks to analyze the Husserlian conception of love as a source of ethical normativity. To that effect, it discusses Husserl’s late writings on ethics, in which the affective dimension of the experience of duty is awarded full ethical status. The paper addresses ethical love and its differences with the natural and instinctive forms in which it is rooted, and examines how Husserl deals with the ethical mandate to love one’s neighbor, emphasizing its universal scope.

    • Alasdair MacIntyre: relatividad conceptual, tomismo y liberalismo

Isler Soto, Carlos (Universidad Nacional de Colombia: Departamento de Filosofía, 2011)
Influenced by Thomas Kuhn, Alasdair MacIntyre develops a conceptually relativistic theory of research traditions, aimed at describing the structure of these traditions and finding a principle that makes it possible to resolve the disputes among them. The article discusses this theory and analyzes its compatibility with Thomism, a tradition that MacIntyre claims to belong to, and with liberalism, a tradition he emphatically criticizes.

Although we recognize the value of ethical interpretations of the Tractatus Logicophilosophicus, we also believe that many of them overvalue the place and value of ethics in the book. This paper analyzes these interpretations, in order to show their merits and their faults and develop what we call complementarity between logic and ethics. Only with the interaction of logic and ethics, considered transcendental by Wittgenstein, will we be able to read the Tractatus as a non-contradictory whole.

    • Alternativas, responsabilidad y respuesta a razones

Moya Espí, Carlos (Universidad Nacional de Colombia: Departamento de Filosofía, 2009)
This paper is intended to defend the Principle of Alternative Possibilities (pap) against two recent putative counterexamples to it, inspired by the one that Harry Frankfurt designed forty years ago. The first three sections provide a summary of the state of the art. In the remaining sections, the counterexamples to pap of Widerkers (Brain-Malfunction-W) and Perebooms (Tax Evasion) are succes- sively presented and discussed. We hold that both examples breach at least one of two conditions that are required in order to refute pap, namely, (1) that the agent is morally responsible for his/her decision and (2) that s/he lacks any morally signifi- cant (robust) alternatives to it. Regarding (1), the examples face several problems concerning the reasons-responsiveness of the agents mechanism of deliberation and decision making, which throws doubts upon his/her moral responsibility. Regarding (2), we try to show that the respective agents have robust alternatives within their reach. We conclude, then, that pap is not refuted by these examples.
    • Ambigüedad religiosa, diversidad y racionalidad

      Gómez Rincón, Carlos Miguel (2017)
The article explores the relation between the propositional and non-propositional dimensions of religious belief in order to show that the latter guides the process of justification and represents its limit. It argues that the non-propositional dimension also has cognitive value because it constitutes a sort of pre-theoretical epistemic election that does not pertain exclusively to religious faith. The article also delves into the notion of religious ambiguity, both in its intellectual and experiential interpretations, and argues that the relationship between the propositional and the non-propositional dimensions of faith is mediated by the guiding role of the metaphysical presuppositions established by religious experience

In opposition to the etiological conception of biological functions, this paper attempts to show that explanations by natural selection, far from justifying functional attributions, presuppose them, and that these attributions may be understood by appealing to a particular specification of the systemic conception of function, that is, the biological conception of function. The paper argues that the etiological conception of biological function is based on two fundamental errors: confusing the concept of function with the concept of adaptation, and confusing selectional explanations with functional analyses. This explains the inappropriate demand that those analyses include an etiological explanatory aspect and make possible the distinction between adaptations and exaptations.
