The number of Romanians living abroad, in Europe, North and South America, Australia and Asia does not exceed 11 million. The biggest Romanian communities are in the United States, Canada, Germany, Australia, France, Italy, Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Ireland, Venezuela and New Zealand. If in case of Romanian ethnics living in the United States, Canada, France, Venezuela, etc., we can mainly talk about either pre-war migration or anticommunist political exile, in other states such as Italy, Germany, Spain, Ireland or New Zealand, most of the Romanian communities have been generated by the economic exile, especially after December 1989.Date
