"I T is sometimes contended that the modern man cannot be con~ erned with the ethical teaching of One who lived nearly two thousand years ago in an obscure and backward part of the Roman Empire, who had not been educated in any recognised centre of learning, who did not pursue any vocation likely to broaden His outlook, and who had no personal contact with the greater movements of the civilised world.
