Abstract

"These short papers were written for men longing for a change of pastorate but seeing little immediate hope of it. What can they do while they wait, while schemes meant to help tarry, while the few doors that stand ajar for a time close, and all honourable efforts to remove fail? How can the man at once become fitter for his work and. guard against a most natural discouragement? I assume that he neither commits slow suicid~ by over-working seven days in the week, nor ruins his ministry by wicked idleness. There is nothing new to recommend. But old and forgotten and simple prescriptions may prove priceless when remembered and applied"
