Abstract
"Forged within dissenting communities through the past four centuries, Baptists have historically prided themselves on providing a nonconformist alternative to the establishment. There is a strong case for arguing that, along with other dissenting groups, Baptists played an important part in forming our democratic system of government. So, it is not without some irony that today’s most complete critique of our current democracy should come from the established church!1 The Church of England bishops are the new nonconformists"
