The text concerns José Vasconcelos's visit to Uruguay during a trip to four countries in South Américas Southern Cone (Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Uruguay), which subsequently gave rise to his famous book, ha raza cósmica. For a number of reasons, Vasconcelos harbored particular expectations about his brief stay in Uruguay. However, given his ideas and projects, it is safe to assume that his direct encounter with the actual Uruguay would have been more conflictive than he expected. The text deals with this little-known stage of Vasconcelos's well-publicized journey and explores the reasons behind certain debates and striking incompatibilities triggered by the specific experience of the visit.Date

El Beato del archivo histórico provincial de ZamoraSuárez González, Ana (Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas - Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas, 2003-12-01)Fragments 276 and 277 of the Archivo Histórico Provincial de Zamora provide evidence of a heretofore unknown codex of the Commentary on the Apocalypse by Beatus of Liébana. Written in visigothic script, the Beatus manuscript to which they pertain can be dated to the first half of the tenth century. This study provides an analysis —external and internal— of both fragments, along with an edition of the text, comparing them with the surviving visigothic examples in order to situate the manuscript within the stemma of known Beatus manuscripts.

The Revival of Tradition in Indonesian Politics. The Deployment of Adat from Colonialism to Indigenism, Jamie S. Davidson & David Henley (eds)Stephen C. Headley (Presses Universitaires de Provence, 2013-03-01)The title of this book immediately gives an idea of its bread of perspective and the approach adopted by its editors. In March, 2004, the Singapore-based Asian Research Institute (ARI) organized on the island of Batam a workshop, “Adat revivalism in Indonesia’s democratic transition,” that gave rise to this publication. It is a most timely and useful collection bringing into focus different strands of the debate about the relevance of adat (customary law), and this in a variety of perspective...
