Influence of Spirituality in the Career and STEM-Based Research Approach of Scientists for Sustainable Development: A Study on the Perspective of Scientists from a Public Research University in MalaysiaThis explanatory case study aims to formulate a framework of spiritual influence on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)-based research for sustainable development from the perspective of university scientists. This single-site case qualitative study involves seven participants from a Malaysian public research university with a variety of specific research fields. Questions regarding the driving factors of their research strategy for sustainable technology developments were asked. Consequently, the main driving factors on using STEM approaches for sustainable developments are career competency enhancements. This theme can be proven with elements, such as STEM for enhancing the ability to expand a specific field contribution, improving interdisciplinary management, obtaining outsource support, and enhancing innovative capability. Meanwhile, spiritual influence on sustainable development is a part of the philosophy of participants and can be proven through the elements of moral and ethical beliefs with respect to religious values in their scientific career and STEM-based research practice. Therefore, the influence of spirituality is a crucial concept, which can ensure social, emotional, economic, and environmental sustainability development. This framework is built among limited participants. Thus, confirming this framework by using a wide range of samples is encouraged. Moreover, this study generally has implications for sustainable development using STEM-based practice for specific field expertise. The concept aims to provide remarkable contributions to the growth of comprehensive, holistic, and sustainable development and to extend the current literature on STEM research approaches by inculcating spiritual elements.

A Disputa Entre "Cientistas Jesuítas" e "Cientistas Iluministas" no Mundo Ibero-Americano [Dispute Between "Scientists Jesuits" and "Illuminati scientists" at the Ibero-American World]"o objetivo é distinguir, nos escritos jesuíticos e nas fonnulações dos reformadores iluministas ligados ao Despotismo Esclan:cido, continuidades e descontinuidades com a tradição eclética que vinha caracterizando as sociedades ibéricas, particularmente a espanhola, desde o século XVI, representada então pela hegemonia da Companhia de Jesus, com as qual os reformadores ilustrados do século XVIII se propõem a romper. A idéia é abordar a disputa entre os reformadores iluministas e os jesuítas enquanto uma competição entre duas diferentes apropriações de um conjunto de proposições filosóficas em voga no século XVIII, considerando que tanto os jesuítas quanto os chamados 'iluministas ibéricos' tentavam conciliar as novas idéias com premissas tradicionais, ainda que em diferentes direções. O embate trava-se, portanto, no interior do iluminismo ibérico, tanto metropolitano quanto colonial. The Death Of An Accused Scientist - The Reporting on Bruce Ivins and It's Use of The Mad Scientist StereotypeThe mad scientist stereotype seems to be alive and well. This time it is emerging in a disturbing way. A US Army scientist, Bruce E. Ivins, committed suicide at the age of 62. He has been implicated in the Anthrax case from 2001. You remember those letters that started to show up after 9/11 "Death to America, Death to Israel, Praise be to Allah!" (That is another set of stereotypes for another day. Those letters fueled Anti Arab/"Arab looking person" hate crimes and islamophobia for months after 9/11.) Well now that he is dead and cannot protect himself from allegations he has basically been tried and convicted by media for those terrorist attacks.
