Abstract
This article develops a three-step argument. Firstly, it reconstructs how Adam Smith countered the criticism of agricultural speculation at his time. Secondly, it sketches a response to the prevailing critique of agricultural speculation by today’s index funds. Finally, the third step formulates the ordonomic basis for interdisciplinary cooperation between economic ethics and agricultural economics.
