Abstract

"The foreword to this book describes ethics as “the philosophical study of the moral value of human conduct and of the rules and principles that ought to govern it.” Medical personnel in the fields of anaesthesia and intensive care are often required to treat patients who are unconscious or semiconscious and incapable of taking informed decisions. In such situations, the time available to have a detailed discussion with the accompanying relatives may be limited.
