Abstract
What is Reformational theology?: Thoughts on a petition of protest
The Netherdutch Reformed Church of Africa (NRCA) has been associated with apartheid for decades. In 2010 the NHKA decided to withdraw its theological legitimisation of apartheid. This decision caused conflict and strife within the church. This article deals with the theological arguments of the opponents of Decision 54 of the General Church Assembly of 2010. It argues that the defe nders of apartheid deviate from the Reformational theology on central issues. Special attention is given to the doctrines of justification and the imago Dei. Christian freedom and ethical responsibility also receive attention.
