Abstract
Genetic engineering is in full development: opportunities and risks are high. As regards the legal regulation of genetic engineering, the Church and Society Commission of the Federation of Swiss Protestant Churches rejects the initiative for ‘genetic protection’ and pleads for a revised version of Federal Council’s Gen-Lex bill. The later must, however, take into account five important ethical considerations : 1) life-coherent use of technology, 2) dignity of creation, 3) conservation of biological diversity, 4) sustainability and 5) fairness.
