Abstract: The Qur’anic Perspectives on Donation (Infâq). Wealthdistribution is an important concept regarding social welfare. One of key concepts on wealth distribution in the Qur’an is infâq, which stands for efficient attitude and practices on one hand and reducing wastefullness on the other. Works on Qur’anic exegesis and Islamic law, both classical works and modern ones, contain much discussion about this concept. The author argues that one of the most dominant views regarding infâq is that it is considered as a non-binding act of charity or a recommended act (sunnah) in Islamic law. Ibn ‘Abbâs, for instance, holds that it renders a bridging concept between zakât and almsgiving. This paper is an attempt to explore the concept of infâq by analyzing various Qur’anic verses and provide a comparison with prominent views of Islamic scholars.Kata Kunci: infâq, keborosan dan al-nafaqah

Abstract: Syi‘ah Itsna ‘Asyariyah: Some Principal Teachings. The debate of ideological understanding of the rightful leadership is an important issue within the Shiates mainstream of Islam. The Shiates put ‘Ali—the fourth of al-khulafâ’ al-râsyidûn—in a special position, because they consider him as the rightful successor of the Prophet Muhammad. On the contrary, however, they consider the other three caliphs as unlawful claimers to the caliphate. However, differences of understanding in the Shiates also occur at doctrinal level that gives rise to the emergence of the Twelvers and Seveners of Shiates, the former of which holds that there are twelve lawful number of imâm whereas the latter believes that there are only seven respectively. This article traces the historical roots of divergent doctrine within the Shiites mainstream, analyses how it develop through times, and argues that the different doctrine hold by respective sects whether at a lesser or greater extent lead to different factions. Kata Kunci: syi‘ah itsna ‘Asyariyah, imâmah

Abstract: Apostasy: Between Death Penalty and Religious Freedom: A Thematic Study of Hadîth. One of the most sensitive discussions in Islamiclaw is the issue of apostasy. Some scholars of Islam maintain that the dead penalty for the apostate found in the precept of Islamic law is perceived as contrary to human rights, since it is against the principles of religious freedom. This paper presents a different perspective, which explains that this allegation is not entirely true. Not merely because of the apostasy. Thus it is fair to say that some of the Islamic tenets are in line with the principles of democracy, and perhaps that are potential contradiction of democratic values. Kata Kunci: Islam, demokrasi, politik, Indonesia

Abstract: Homosexuality in the Perspective of Western Thinkers and Islamic Jurisprudents. It is widely accepted that homosexuality is a  damaging and immoral way of life. This presupposition seems to become as a uniting factor between the thoughts of Western scholars and Islamic jurisprudents on the legal position of homosexuality. Accordingly, in the reality of Western world not all of the society is in agreement with substantial use of freedom occurs around them. Freedom demanded by homosexuality and social reality has led to serious concern amongstthe society about their future generation. In such a condition their human nature points to the necessity for religious and spiritual life. The development of hadits critisism dircourses has been an interesting issue in Islamic studies. According to Syahrur, the Prophet’s saying and deeds are the product of history rather than revelation. He claimed that whatever hadiths that are contradictory to al-Qur’an must be rejected, although related to religious observance or moral conduct.
