Masculinidad en la traducción de la Biblia en Latinoamérica [Masculinity in translation of Latin American Bible]

Abstract

"La práctica de la traducción nunca es un emprendimiento neutral. Esta máxima se aplica también a la traducción bíblica. El presente artículo plantea las cuestiones de traducción bíblica y masculinidad en traducciones de la Biblia usadas en América Latina. Seis Biblias en castellano fueron analizadas. Estas vienen de diferentes tradiciones religiosas y representan diferentes teorías de traducción. No es un secreto que los hombres han dominado la práctica de la traducción bíblica y que una ideología masculina ciertamente está presente en todas las traducciones estudiadas. Este estudio también presenta un estudio de casos basado en la más reciente traducción bíblica publicada en Latinoamérica. Basado en los hallazgos, el estudio apela a que todas las traducciones sean revisadas teniendo en cuenta la presencia de lo que puede ser llamada “influencia hegemónica masculina” en la traducción bíblica. Nuestro argumento es que las traducciones de la Biblia pueden ser mejoradas y más aún, pueden ser hechas más “amigables con el género”." "The practice of translation is never a neutral enterprise. This maxim applies to Biblical translation as well. The present article addresses the issues of Bible translation and masculinity in translations of the Bible used in Latin America. Six Spanish Bible translations were analyzed. These come from different religious traditions and represent different theories of translation. It is no secret that males have dominated the practice of Bible translation and male ideology is certainly present in all of the translations studied. This study also presents a case study based on the most recent Bible translation published in Latin America. Based on the findings the study makes a plea for all translations to be revised bearing in mind the presence of what might be called a “masculine hegemonic influence” in Bible translation. It is our contention that translations of the Bible can be improved and thus be made more “gender friendly.”"
