Abstract
This study is meant to be an exegetical-theological analysis of hope as found in the psalms - particularly in Psalm 72. From their present experience of greek domination, the poor re-read the past apex period of the Davidic monarchy and project the coming of a messianic king who will defend the oppressed. During moments of prayer, they make their plan for government. Psalm 72 gives us a good example of how to understand the manner in which the poor built up their hope. The symbolism we find in this psalm presents a picture of the king and his govenment. The re- reading of this psalm by the christians identified Jesus as the long- awaited Messiah-King."
