Abstract
Limited land and financial capital became the driving factor Gunungkidul residents migrating out. Migration out a livelihood strategies chosen people because of the structure and social organization can not afford presenting a portfolio of assets / resources as a source of productive and sustainable livelihoods. The flow of out-migration was finally menasbihkan Gunungkidul as barns migrants locally and nationally. Animo migration flows continue as the destination continues to provide livelihood better, even the migrants managed to deliver remittances (remittances) to their families in their homeland. Potential of remittances in Gunungkidul should not be underestimated, because remittances have emerged as a symbol of social ties, and even the potential for social investment. Are remittances can transformed from social ties towards social investment? How to transform the opportunities and challenges of these remittances for social investment?
