Abstract
" "Ex. 25-40 takes shape within the matrix of the Zaddokite porgram. It is somewhat like an overture in which all the most important elements of the symphony are presented. The Book of Numbers is the gran finale of the same symphony. Here the themes are resumed, repeated and consolidated and the music elaborated by the Zaddokites of the Second Temple echoes in its definitive form, eternal and immutable. Here the ideal figure of the People of God has its birth: the community of the children of Israel, arrayed in order around the Tabernacle and obedient to the priest. The question of purity and access to holiness pervades all social relations, from top to bottom, and makes them solid and immutable. The “kingdom of priets” and “holy nation” of Ex. 19,6 are established on the basis of Sinai. The journey through the desert, which marks the second half of the book, enables situationes experienced in the Second Temple to receive ancient, legitimizing roots. At the center is a concern to guarantee the primacy of the Zaddokites and to stress the importance of their expiatory role"
