Abstract
The article presents four ways of approaching the Bible, which have been present in Latin America since 500 years ago. The first section analyzes the use of the Bible to legitimize the conquest; the second observe the rejection of the Bible by some indigenous peoble; the third discusses the popular reading of the Bible; and the fourth presents the challenge to the Bible posed by indigenous Christians. At the end it is suggested that we move on from the hermeneutical struggle to the critical analysis of Christian theological discourse, since this has been used frequently throughout history to legitimize opression"
