AbstractThe aim of this paper is to analyze the material remains of two colonial archaeological sites, located on the coastal plain of the federal state of Rio Grande do Sul. In order to amplify the historical context of the samples we compared the material elements recovered on the sites RS-LN-141 and RS-LN- 142 with historical information of the area obtained through bibliographic review. The objects of the collection correspond to an initial period of the peopling in the area by Portuguese and mestizo individuals, near to the establishment of the first agropastoral properties and distant from the first interaction of slave raiders and missionaries with the native population.
