Abstract
["The article debates an essay recently published on the liberal doctrine of the freedom of press and its current challenges. First, the article presents briefly the historical course of the liberal doctrine that the essay outlines, as well as the principal challenges which the above mentioned doctrine confronts today because of the changes in the mass media. Afterwards the article passes to discuss with more detail what normative sphere should help more to improve the mass media. Whereas the essay insists on the role of the law due to its efficiency, the article defends the specific role of ethics, arguing that: the dissonance between doctrine and reality is not exclusive of our time; self-regulation makes a specific contribution; the law also has limitations when improving social communications and can carry risks; and the deficit of our country is more of a democratic and civic culture than of laws."]
