USING CUBING TECHNIQUE TO IMPROVE WRITING SKILL OF THE XI GRADERS OF SMA ISLAM KARANGPLOSO MALANG
AbstractWriting is considered as one of the difficult skills for not only native speakers but also hundreds of students who are learning English as a second or foreign language around the world. One of the difficult components in writing is generating and organizing ideas. Therefore, there are many kinds of technique used to help the studentsÂ’ writing skill; one of them is cubing technique. Based on this consideration, the researcher wants to investigate whether teaching writing using cubing technique can significantly improve the studentsÂ’ achievement in writing analytical exposition text at SMA Islam Karangploso, Malang. This study used a quasi-experimental design because the groups were already organized in the daily normal teaching. In this study, the experimental group was treated using cubing technique while the control group was treated using conventional method that had already been organized by the teacher. The population of this study was the second year students of SMA Islam Karangploso, Malang. There were two sample classes in this research; XI.IPA which consists of 14 students as the experimental group and XI.IPS which consist of 13 students as the control group. The data were obtained through a test and were analyzed using paired sample t-test. The result of statistical analysis using paired sample t-test showed that the t-ratio 7.079 was higher that the t-table 2.160 in level of significance of 0.05% and in the degrees of freedom 13. Therefore, this result is cited to verify the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. It means that using cubing technique significantly improves the studentsÂ’ writing skill of the XI graders of SMA Islam Karangploso, Malang.
