"The present article aims at describing two essential subject-matters: on the one hand, to show briefly the history and development of how a sector of Theology of the Latin American liberation is understanding the postulates of the pluralistic theology of the religion and their corresponding reasons for that. On the other hand, the article aims at questioning itself if this match can or not be due to the own development of the methodology in the theology of the liberation, or if this step is not justified enough and, therefore, a different way could exist from where the theology of the Latin American liberation can make its own contribution into the reality of a religious pluralism without having to assume the pluralistic paradigm."Date

Approaching the ApproachesPhillips, Elizabeth (Routledge, 2012-01-01)AbstractStudents of political theology need a broad introduction to, and some understanding of how to distinguish between, varying approaches to the discipline. This article argues that differing approaches should be introduced in ways which emphasize the historical, theological, geographical, and ecclesial situatedness of their practitioners. Such introduction to the situatedness of various approaches should not pretend to be objective, but should be sympathetic. Those teaching political theology should also carefully incorporate their own situatedness, showing students how they are working within particular approaches themselves without reducing their teaching to advocacy for their own approaches. The proposal for teaching political theology argued here focuses on inviting students to become active practitioners of political theology, instead of mere consumers of information about the discipline.
