AbstractThe objective of this article is to discuss the main features of conception of bringing up securities of life as reflected in the works of the enlightener M. Valančius. It should be noted that pedagogical system of M.Valančius may be discussed only on conditional basis. The above conception of bringing up was characteristic to whole practical activities of M. Valančius and in his entire diverse creation. In the context of the science of education prof. L. Jovaiša emphasizes natural, existence, practical, economical, social, cultural, mental and moral groups of securities of life. Almost all of these securities of life as well as hodegetic features of didactics may be found in the works of M. Valančius. To generalize the ideas of the article we can make the following conclusions: The mental inheritance of the Samogitian bishop and enlightener M. Valančius is enormous, but his pedagogic views are not concentrated in one work -the features of conception of bringing up are recognized in the process of analysis of his didactic works. The conception of bringing up the securities of life of M. Valančius is based on the science of education, thus the main pedagogic ideas are disclosed on the basis of bringing up securities of life. In the context of bringing up mental securities of life M. Valančius gave priority to religious education and related it to cognition of the truths of religion, moral way of living and religious practice. In the sphere of bringing up cultural securities extremely high attention is paid to erudition aiming at the same time for the education to serve for preservation of religion, diligence and family traditions.
In the works of M. Valančius we often find happiness as the image of the sense of life which should be considered one of the main existence features of the concept of bringing up. The grounds for bringing up practical and economical securities of life in didactics of M. Valančius is expedient activities based on the realization of the talents and inclinations of an individual, good professional training for future activities. A person's sociality, his moral peculiarities in the works of M. Valančius are tested by practical activities - good works and noble acts which are trained by a good personal sample. Though deep psychology is not characteristic to the didactics of M. Valančius, he sagaciously solves the majority of educational problems by using his rich experience as a priest and a teacher. Pedagogic views of M. Valančius with equally high attention to bringing up both children and adults join perfectly well the problems of modern educology.
