Abstract

"El Sinodo del Obispo Alvarez, celebrado en Córdoba entre ello de noviembre y el 9 de diciembre de 1877, tiene algunas características interesantes. Se realiza en el territorio de la República después de la sanción de la Constitución nacional de 1853 y de las Constitúciones provinciales de 1855 y 1870. Entonces los límites del país coinciden con los de la única provincia eclesiástica, dividida en cinco diócesis!. Es nuestro único sínodo durante todo el siglo XIX, convocado inmediatamente después del Vaticano I (1870) Y veintidós' años antes del Concilio Plenario de la América Latina (1899). Es uno de los acontecimientos religiosos más importantes de la Argentina en las postrimerías del siglo pasado. Se trata de un documento de innegable relevancia para el conocimiento de la historia eclesiástica en un momento particularmente difícil de la vida de la Iglesia en nuestro país. Nos parece de gran valor en sí, y también comparado con los anteriores de la región.
