Abstract

"Considerats dintre el marc de la papirologia literària, els documents gnòstics constitueixen una singularitat perquè són les úniques obres literàries de l’antiguitat que ens han arribat d›una manera pràcticament exclusiva sota la forma de còdexs papiracis i, majoritàriament, en traducció copta. El fet que no s’arribessin a incorporar a la tradició manuscrita medieval, però que, en canvi, ens n’hagi pervingut un volum important, tant pel nombre d’escrits com per llur extensió, obliga a contemplar-los sota una perspectiva especial. L’estudi dels testimonis antics ens permet entrellucar el procés de difusió i de traducció dels textos i, especialment, la seva evolució interna, normalment parella al desenvolupament doctrinal de les comunitats que els empraven, i el procés de traducció a la llengua copta. Tots aquests fets tenen profundes conseqüències en ordre a l’edició i estudi dels textos" ["When considered within the framework of literary papyrology, Gnostic documents are singular in as much as they are the only ancient literary works that have come down to us almost only in the format of papyrus codices and, mostly, in Coptic translation. Although they did not reach the medieval manuscript tradition, the great amount of material, both in terms of the number of writings and their scope, means that the scholars ought to adopt a special approach in considering them. The examination of these ancient witnesses enables us to study the process of diffusion and translation of the texts and, in a special way, their internal evolution, usually dependent on the doctrinal development of the communities that employed them, as well as the process of translating them into Coptic. These various factors involve profound consequences for the edition and the translation of the texts"]
