Abstract
["Claudia Rodrigues, invites readers to accompany shifts occurred in the understanding of death and dying. In the eighteenth century and early nineteenth century, the concern with the "good death" was palpable in all social classes in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The reading of the wills of seven hundred and eight hundred shows as the inhabitants of Rio de Janeiro had introjected Catholic practices and representations of death and dying. The first goal of wills was the salvation of the soul after death and its making followed the Church pastoral guidelines to achieve a "good death"."]
