Abstract

"Este texto constitui uma reflexão sobre o crescimento da devoção a Sathya Sai Baba no mundo ocidental e no Brasil em particular. Inserida no contexto das intensas mudanças que atingiram o universo religioso ocidental nas últimas décadas, essa devoção é aqui analisada a partir de três referenciais: o da singularidade da mensagem e do propósito de Sai Baba dentro das correntes religiosas ligadas ao Hinduísmo que aportaram no Ocidente no século XX; o da relação entre a aceitação dos ensinamentos de Sai Baba e o fenômeno de orientalização do universo religioso ocidental; e o das aproximações existentes entre a devoção a Sai Baba e aspectos centrais da devoção cristã" ["This text constitutes a reflection about the growth of the devotion for Sathya Sai Baba in the western world and particularly in Brazil. Inserted in the context of the intense changes that reached the western religious universe last decades, this devotion is here analyzed from three references on: the singularity of the message and Sai Baba’s purpose into the religious tendencies linked to Hinduism that came to occident in twentieth century; the relation between the acceptation of Sai Baba’s teachings and the phenomenon or orientalization of western religious universe; and the approximation between the devotion for Sai Baba and central aspects of christian devotion."]
