Abstract
"O Banco da Suécia, em 1991, outorgou o Prêmio Nobel de Economia ao inglês Ronald Coase. Dois anos depois o laureado foi o norte americano Douglass North. Estava consagrada, assim, a Nova Teoria Institucional, um método revolucionário de análise, que, além da matemática, unia a História, a sociologia, a psicologia e outras ciências humanas ao estudo da economia. Esta Teoria, hoje em dia, está consolidada e a maior parte da elite acadêmica do mundo civilizado a adota. Ela atribui o sucesso das economias das nações à qualidade de suas Instituições. Onde as Instituições nacionais são apropriadas, o capitalismo se desenvolve, os indivíduos despertam o gigantesco potencial que têm dentro de si e o país, com um todo, enriquece. Onde não são, o resultado inevitável é a pobreza, a falta de iniciativa e a estagnação econômica. Vamos tentar entender.
