Abstract
["The indigenous peoples of South America, Central America and parts of the Caribbean, belonging to some 600 cultures, today over 50 million people , ie 10% of the total. And although numerically varies from place to place , their presence is also reflected in the value of its history , its cultural heritage, its mastery of space it inhabits, and the space itself. The old model of indigenous peoples' relationship with the state, based on the will of the latter compulsive assimilation caused them irreparable injuries and losses. However, its organizational and institutional development efforts in recent decades have increasingly opened the alternative that are articulated in national societies , with formal and practical recognition of their fundamental rights, among which prominently include the right to land - translated into standards and government programs".]
