Conducta de ayuda: Influencia del atractivo físico y la cultura

¿Crees que ayudarías a alguien que se dirige a una entrevista de trabajo si la ayuda que te pide es que le des un euro? ¿Crees que influiría en la conducta de ayuda si la persona que la solicita es atractiva? ¿Y si es musulmana? Uno de los ámbitos de investigación de la psicología social desde el asesinato de Catherine Genovese en 1964 ha sido la conducta de ayuda. Según la literatura, el atractivo físico o la categoría social a la que pertenece el solicitante de ayuda influye en los sujetos cuando tienen que prestar ayuda. En esta investigación se ha diseñado un experimento de campo para comprobar si el atractivo físico o el grupo al que pertenece un sujeto influyen cuando tenemos que ayudar a alguien. Los resultados obtenidos en el estudio no han confirmado todas las hipótesis planteadas. Sin embargo, sí se han encontrado diferencias significativas en cuanto a la ayuda prestada a la cómplice cuando estaba caracterizada como occidental o musulmana (χ2=7,366, 1 grado de libertad y un coeficiente de significación de 0,007, a un nivel de significación del 95%). Además se han encontrado diferencias significativas en la ayuda prestada en 2 de los 4 rangos de edad (χ2=14,407, con 1 grado de libertad y un coeficiente de significación de 0,002 que indica que existen diferencias significativas en la muestra, a un nivel de significación del 95%) y diferencias significativas en cuanto ayuda cuando la cómplice estaba caracterizada como occidental atractiva (coeficiente χ2=5,013, con 1 grado de libertad y un coeficiente de significación de 0,025 que indica que existen diferencias significativas en la muestra, a un nivel de significación del 95%.)

Do you think that you would help somebody who is going to a job interview if the helps he asks for is to give her a euro? Do you think it would influence on helping behavior if the person requesting it is attractive? What if she is a Muslim? One of the areas of research in social psychology since the murder of Catherine Genovese in 1964 has been the helping behavior. According to the literature, the physical attractiveness or social category to which the applicant for aid influences the subjects when they have to provide help. In this research a field experiment has been designed to test whether the physical attractiveness or the group to which a subject belongs influences when we have to help someone. The results obtained in the study have not confirmed all the hypotheses raised. However, significant differences have been found in the assistance provided to the accomplice when it was characterized as Occidental or Muslim (χ2 = 7.366, 1 freedom degree and a significance coefficient of 0.007,indicating that there are significant differences in the sample at a significance level of 95% ). In addition, significant differences were found in the aid provided in 2 of the 4 age ranges (χ2=14,407, 1 freedom degree and a significance coeficient of 0,002 indicating that there are significant differences in the sample at a significance level of 95%) and significant differences in aid when the accomplice was characterized as attractive western (coefficient χ2 = 5,013, with 1 freedom degree and a significance coefficient of 0.025 indicating that there are significant differences in the sample, at a significance level of 95%.)
