Abstract

"“La imagen tiene un poder, es un lenguaje fabuloso y universal. Pero la imagen sola para mí es casi como el polvo. Una sola imagen porque es hermosa, fuerte, interesante, no deja de ser un objeto. Pero una serie de imágenes, con una serie de información, de promoción social, es un mensaje social…. Mi trabajo [no] es hecho en forma alguna como una pieza de arte. Yo soy un reportero, no soy un artista en el sentido que no estoy produciendo objetos artísticos para ser mirados como tales. Estoy produciendo una serie de imágenes dentro de un lenguaje informativo para ayudar a provocar una discusión general”1

Sebastião Salgado es uno de los fotógrafos más importantes en el mundo. Sus series sobre las grandes migraciones en el planeta y de los trabajadores que han perdido tierra y futuro han viajado por museos de Europa, Estados Unidos y América Latina. Salgado tiene en su haber muchos reconocimientos; entre los relevantes se cuenta el Premio Eugene Smith (1982) en el rubro de fotografía humanitaria, y en 1998 se convirtió en el primer fotógrafo en recibir el Premio Príncipe de Asturias de las Artes. ÉXODOS es el último trabajo de Sebastião Salgado, dedicado a los refugiados de todo el mundo. Es una colección de 300 fotografías al mundo de los desplazados, de todos aquellos que por diversos motivos: guerras, persecuciones raciales, inclemencias climáticas, hambrunas, deben forzosamente emigrar en busca de un destino mejor. Muchos mueren en el intento, otros tantos, apenas logran cambiar un infierno por otro.2 Para llevarlo a cabo, el fotógrafo brasileño acompañó durante seis años a grupos de desplazados de 40 países a lo largo de los caminos, en los campos de refugiados y en los suburbios de las ciudades donde, de manera frecuente, acababan sus recorridos". Sebastião Salgado is one of the most important photographers in the world . His series on the great migrations on the planet and workers who have lost land and have traveled future museums in Europe , America and Latin America. Salgado is credited with many awards , among the relevant Eugene Smith Award (1982 ) are included in the category of humanitarian photography, and in 1998 became the first photographer to receive the Prince of Asturias Award for the Arts. EXODUSES is the last work of Sebastião Salgado, dedicated to refugees worldwide . It is a collection of 300 photographs to the world of the displaced and those who for various reasons : wars , racial persecution , inclement weather , famine , must necessarily emigrate in search of a better life .
