Abstract
Los padres se ven revestidos de la potestad para decidir sobre si el genoma de sus hijos posee la sufi ciente calidad como para dejarles vivir" ["Preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a technique that facilitates the analysis of human embryos obtained by in vitro fertilization, with the aim of avoiding the implantation of embryos showing signs of mutated genes or a chromosomal abnormalities that can lead to disease. It is a sort of «genetic quality control,» that determines whether a human embryo is demmed fi t for implantation. Preimplantation genetic diagnosis seems to be an effective means to eliminate diseases for society. This is totally misleading, as preimplantation genetic diagnosis does not prevent the disease but eliminates the carrier of the same. Accordingly, preimplantation genetic diagnosis is a technique at the service of violence, since it grants human beings the capacity to decide the life and fate of other human beings. In addition, this type of violence has greater importance as it is generated in the very nucleus of society: the family. Parents bestow upon themselves the power to decide on if the genetic makeup of their children is of suffi cient quality so as to be allowed to live"]
