Abstract
This paper addresses this question: can a common global moral code be developed that could serve as the essential moral Foundation for those enlightened practices and institutions so necessary if the human community is to survive and thrive during the 21st century and beyond? The paper responds by sketching several promising approaches for such a cosmopolitan value System: a deontological effort to insist that moral rules are universal and absolute, a contractarian answer that the global system encourages global rules of justice, ecumenical answers from the materials of comparative religion, sociobiology's insights into the moral dimension of our common human nature, and the explosion of interactional law as a manifestation of universal moral ideals"]
