Abstract
We aim to highlight the complex links between the donors, their offerings and the goddess in the case of a Hellenistic Delian shrine, the Aphrodision of Stesileos. An examination of inscriptions and remains suggests that the votive practice significantly evolved during the second century, as attested by the change in the type of offerings made to the goddess. This evolution takes place when the type of audience attending the sanctuary changes following the expulsion of the Delian citizens ; the nature of these changes seems to indicate an evolution in the divine personality of Aphrodite. The case of this Aphrodision shows the ability of people to adapt the divine figure to their own needs, and the role of offerings in updating some functional characteristics of the deity.
