AbstractThis study will share about the experience on how Teaching Practice (TP) students learn and obtain the knowledge about teaching English to students in several secondary schools in Salatiga (Junior High Schools and Senior High Schools). TP, as a compulsory subject in the English Department of Satya Wacana Christian University, is the time where the students can apply the learning theories they have learnt before. However, for many of them, TP was their first experience to teach ‘real’ students in a formal academic institution. As a result, there might be many things that were still new when they started to do the TP. Because of this issue, the research attempted to answer the question: How do student teachers acquire pedagogical knowledge in their Teaching Practice? To answer the research question, a qualitative research was done through some interviews with twenty ED students who have done TP in some secondary schools. The result of this paper shows that the participants develop their pedagogical knowledge during their TP program in some ways, like by participating actively in teaching, learning from mentor teachers, doing observation, interacting with other student teachers, imitating their mentor teacher and other student teachers, and learning from their teaching reflection.
