Abstract
"Los pensadores posmodernos piensan que las narraciones de apariencia caótica que tienen que ver con grandes personajes, fechas importantes y una acumulación de hechos, a las que llamamos historia, tienen una lógica. Todos tenemos nuestras experiencias y anécdotas sobre el presente y el pasado. Los historiadores son narradores profesionales que buscan en el inventario disponible de formas narrativas (una constante de la historia) y disponen a las personas y los acontecimientos según la lógica de la forma específica de narración que escogieron. Para Marx, Luis Napoleón era una farsa; para la clase alta francesa, era un triunfo y una tragedia. Para los historiadores anticomunistas, la guerra fría era un combate entre el bien y el mal; para los historiadores de la geopolítica, era el enfrentamiento de dos imperios; para los sandinistas, una excusa yanqui para intervenir en la revolución centroamericana. Y así sucesivamente. El libro de ensayos de Hayden White, The Content of the Form, es un importante texto posmoderno. And so on. The book of essays by Hayden White, The Content of the Form, is an important postmodern text. If we simplify enormously elegant and complex argument, suggesting White is that once the historian chooses a narrative form, everything is more or less certain: the content or substance of what he writes, the way that content is available sequentially (when the first act begins, say, when the third ends), and how much emphasis is placed on certain people and events. The narrative form helps decide which White calls "true events" becomes a great work and what not"]
