Abstract
Tais elementos não apenas se mostram consoantes a interpretação fornecida por C. Lefort, mas também promovem desdobramentos importantes no que se refere à reflexão sobre a institucionalização do desejo do povo e sobre o poder deste para salvaguardar a liberdade da república frente à ambição dos grandes" ["The article takes into account the different readings of the works of Machiavelli - which attempt to explain the duality of the author (at the same time Republican and adviser of Lorenzo de Medici) - and brings to the foreground of analysis the defense of freedom and the articulation of this with the dynamics of the moods of the city in order to put the decisive contribution of C. Lefort to discuss the democratic character of the teachings of the Florentine thinker in relief. Then it is about finding the discourse of voluntary servitude, La Boétie, and the Essays, Montaigne, ie, in the French reception of orchestrated political philosophy of Machiavelli in the sixteenth century, new evidence of the link between desire and freedom. These elements not only consonants show the interpretation provided by C. Lefort, but also promote important developments with regard to the reflection on the institutionalization of the desire of the people and the power of this to safeguard the freedom of the republic against the ambition of the great"]
