Abstract
"O objetivo deste estudo foi compreender o significado do processo de morrer com dignidade na percepção dos enfermeiros do curso de especialização em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa, com base na análise do conteúdo. Foi utilizada a entrevista não estruturada, contemplando a seguinte questão norteadora: Qual o significado para você do processo do morrer com dignidade? A coleta de dados foi realizada entre abril e julho do ano de 2009, no Instituto de Educação Continuada PUC Minas, Campi Sete Lagoas e no Praça da Liberdade, em Belo Horizonte, com 10 alunos do Curso de Especialização lato sensu em Enfermagem em Unidade de Terapia Intensiva. Como resultados, emergiram 4 (quatro) categorias: presença dos familiares na fase final da vida; suporte religioso: fonte de dignidade no processo do morrer; reflexões sobre o respeito à autonomia do paciente terminal; percepção do enfermeiro acerca da humanização e cuidados paliativos ao paciente sem possibilidade terapêutica. Concluiu-se que o enfermeiro considera importante a presença do familiar na fase final do processo de morrer, respeita a necessidade e muitas vezes viabiliza o apoio espiritual. Faz-se necessária a adoção de práticas no processo de morrer com dignidade, as quais aliviem a dor e o sofrimento por meio de cuidados paliativos" ["This study aimed at understanding the meaning of the process of dying with dignity in the perception of nurses specializing in Intensive Therapy Unit. It is a qualitative inquiry based in content analysis. A non structured interview was used contemplating the following guiding question: What is for you the meaning of the process of dying with dignity? Data collection was carried out from April to July 2009, in the Institute of Continued Education PUC Minas Campus Sete Lagoas and Campos Praça da Liberdade, Belo Horizonte, with 10 students of the Lato Sensu Specialization Nursing Program in Intensive Therapy Unit. 4 (four) categories surfaced in the research: presence of relatives in the final phase of life, religious support: a source of dignity in the process of dying, Reflections on respect to the autonomy of a terminal patient, perception of nurses about humanization and palliative cares to patients without therapeutic possibilities. We concluded that nurses consider the presence of relatives important in the final phase of the process of dying, respect the necessity and very often promotes spiritual support. We consider necessary to emphasize the importance of adopting practices in the process of dying with dignity that relieve pain and suffering by means of palliative cares"]
