Abstract
It might seem that we consume to satisfy our needs, and partly true, but in a very small part, because the way we consume has some features that take you beyond the simple satisfaction of needs. And this is neither bad nor good, but so, belongs to our ways of relating to people and us. Therefore, as Socrates said, the important thing is that we know ourselves, in this case, I would say that we know the characteristics of human action consuming for us to choose how we look more liberating and fair. As I said in Towards an ethics of consumption, the essence of the human being is not to be consumer but to be free, and freely we must choose some or other forms of consumption. But to do this we need to know that consumption is at least symbolic, comparative, communicative and social."]
