A religião vivida [The lived religion]

Abstract

"Este artigo trabalha o tema do Catolicismo no Brasil tendo como foco principal sua vivência popular. O conceito de religiosidade popular será utilizado para apontar o fato de que há várias maneiras possíveis de uma religião ser concretamente vivida. Será apresentada a instalação do Catolicismo no Brasil e posteriormente as expressões religiosas populares oriundas do mesmo. Ao perpassar por este caminho, pôde-se perceber que mesmo diante de transformações na Igreja e na sociedade, práticas tradicionais permanecem nas classes populares. Partindo de um viés antropológico, serão analisadas as representações populares do culto aos santos, através das orações, promessas e festas. Estes eventos detêm uma função eminentemente restauradora das funções sociais e das relações de devoção, ao aproximar o indivíduo religioso dos seus semelhantes reforçando os laços que os une. O catolicismo é um dos pilares formadores da sociedade brasileira e apresenta uma forma pessoal de relacionar os devotos com os santos –forma que é intimista e até mesmo familiar" ["This article deals with the theme of Catholicism in Brazil focusing primarily on its popular experience. The concept of popular religiosity will be used to point out the fact that there are several ways in which religion may be concretely experienced. The settlement of Catholicism in Brazil will be presented, as well as the religious popular expressions that result from that. Running through that path, it is possible to realize that even in face of changes in the Catholic Church and society, traditional practices endure in popular segments of society. From an anthropological perspective, the representations of the popular cult of saints, through prayers, promises and religious festivals will be analyzed. These events detain an imminently restorative function over devotion relationships and social functions, as it approximates the religious individuals and its peers, reinforcing their social bonds. Catholicism was one of the main pillars in the formation of Brazilian society, and it presents a personal manner to relate the believers and the saints – an intimate and even familiar manner"]
