Abstract

"As interações entre neopentecostalismo e religiões afro-brasileiras são abordadas neste texto numa perspectiva de análise da constituição social do sentido em cada um destes sistemas religiosos e na sua relação recíproca. A presença do cristianismo no continente africano ainda no final do século XV e principalmente nos séculos XVI e XVII já demonstrava certa aproximação das tradições religiosas africanas com o cristianismo. De fato, embora os africanos e os europeus tivessem sistemas religiosos diferentes e um conjunto distinto de revelações básicas, eles possuíam várias ideias em comum que possibilitaram esta aproximação. Agora, um tipo de aproximação pode ser constatado no encontro entre o neopentecostalismo e as religiões afro-brasileiras" ["The interactions between Neo-Pentecostalism and African-Brazilian religions are discussed in the text in an analytical perspective of the social constitution of meaning in each of these religious systems and their mutual relationship. The presence of Christianity in Africa in the late fifteenth century and especially in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries already showed some approximation of African religious traditions with Christianity. Indeed, while the Africans and Europeans had different religious systems and a separate set of basic revelations, they had several ideas in common that enabled this approach.
