A Frente Parlamentar Evangélica [Evangelical Parliamentary Front]

Abstract

"O artigo analisa a força política da Frente parlamentar Evangélica (FPE) no Congresso Nacional brasileiro. Através de entrevistas realizadas com assessores e parlamentares vinculados à Frente Parlamentar Evangélica (FPE) e com seus oponentes, busca compreender sua estrutura, projetos e estratégias de atuação, além do seu fortalecimento político após sua constituição em 2003, no mesmo ano em que Lula assume a presidência do Brasil. Candidato desde 1989, a eleição de Lula em 2002 realizou-se também com o apoio de lideranças evangélicas, algumas delas, inclusive, parlamentares da FPE. Ainda que composta por diferentes partidos e denominações, a Frente Parlamentar Evangélica apresenta uma estratégia e atuação conjunta e reflete o poder de mobilização dos pentecostais na sociedade brasileira" ["The article analyzes the political strength of the Evangelical Parliamentary Front within the Brazilian parliament, a formally secular (or laico, as in Portuguese) state. Through interviews with lawmakers and their advisers linked to Evangelical Parliamentary Front, as well as their opponents, it aims to understand its structure, projects and joint strategies, beyond their political empowerment after its formation in 2003, the same year that Lula assumes the presidency of Brazil.
