Abstract
This article upholds the need for confluence and cross-fertilization between social medicine and bioethics in order to move forward with the common objectives of equity and justice in healthcare. It is essential for social medicine to incorporate in its discourse the progressive concepts of bioethics, such as equity, justice, interdisciplinarity, dialogue between different positions to search for consensus, respect for patients’ self-determination and the leading role of the community in health-related social decisions. Moreover, it is also essential for bioethics to become “socialized” and take a stance consonant with the needs of the marginalized and exploited peoples of the world"]
