Carta a Diogneto [Letter to Diognetus]

Abstract

"Como veo, excelentísmo Diogneto, que tienes gran interés en comprender la religión de los cristianos y que tus preguntas respecto a los mismos –sobre el Dios en quien confían y cómo le adoran para no tener en consideración el mundo y despreciar la muerte; sobre cómo no hacen el menor caso de los tenidos por dioses por los griegos, ni tampoco observan la superstición de los judíos; sobre la naturaleza del afecto que se tienen los unos por los otros; y sobre por qué este nuevo interés ha surgido en las vidas de los hombres ahora y no antes–, son hechas de modo preciso y cuidadoso, te doy el parabién por tal celo y pido a Dios que nos proporciona tanto el hablar como el oír, que a mí me sea concedido el hablar de tal forma que tú puedas mejorar por el oír; y a ti que puedas escuchar de modo que quien habla no se vea decepcionado" ["As I see it, excelentísmo Diogneto, you have great interest in understanding the religion of Christians and that your questions regarding -on the same God they trust and how to worship him not to take into consideration the world and despise death; how do the least attention from those taken by the Greek gods, nor observe the superstition of the Jews; on the nature of the affection they have for one another; and why this new interest has arisen in the lives of men now and not before, are made of precise and careful way, I give you the parabién by such zeal and ask God to give us both speak like hearing than me is granted me speaking of so that you can improve by hearing; and you can hear that so that the speaker does not look disappointed"]
