Mercanti ebrei nel Mediterraneo. Nuovi spunti sulle relazioni commerciali fra Sardegna e Sicilia tra XIV e XV secolo

Abstract

Il presente contributo trae spunto dagli esiti di una lunga ricerca archivistica che, nel restituire una cospicua 
 documentazione sulle relazioni commerciali fra Sardegna e Sicilia nel basso Medioevo, ha permesso di colmare
 precedenti lacune in merito alle società commerciali e alle somme investite dai mercanti ebrei nel commercio con i principali porti sardi, ma soprattutto, ha restituito elementi di novità sui rapporti intercorsi fra le comunità ebraiche delle due maggiori isole mediterranee: dalle affinità istituzionali dovute alla comune appartenenza sotto la Corona aragonese, alla fitta rete di rapporti personali e sociali e di scambi culturali che videro coinvolta l’intera comunità giudaica dei maggiori centri dei due territori.

The present work was encouraged by the results of a long archivist research that, in returning a considerable documentation on the trade relations between Sardinia and Sicily in the late Middle Ages, allowed to fill the previous gaps concerning companies and investments by Jewish merchants in trades with the main Sardinian harbours. Particularly, the research highlighted new elements on the relations between the Jewish communities
 of the two major Mediterranean islands: from institutional similarities due to the common belonging to the Aragon Crown, to the tight network of personal and social relationships, and cultural exchanges in which the whole Jewish
 community in the majors centres of both territories was involved.
