Abstract
In these pages Louis Lavelle shows that the analysis of participation makes clear to us that it is necessary to admit, beyond the existence of the exterior world, which offers itself to us as a spectacle unfolding itself in space and time, and of which one can say that it is the world of phenomena or of our representations, that of the interior world constituted by the activity which makes us be, which is identical with freedom. And, as this activity is mixed with passivity, not only in regard to the pure Activity in which it participates, but also having regard to the affections which the exterior world produces in our body, he attempts to determine its relationships with these affections and those of the latter with our representations ; which brings him to reject the Spinozan parallelism and to show that these two worlds, in spite of their diversity, are not separated, but intimately united, due to the fact that they are both conditions of participation.
