"Através da análise do discurso sobre o falso nos escritos de Santo Agostinho, o presente estudo discute o qual seria o papel desempenhado pela mídia televisiva dentro do processo de transfiguração midiática dos atuais cultos religiosos. Utilizando-se como exemplo do caso da Igreja Mundial do Poder de Deus, na figura de seu líder Valdomiro Santiago, se discute a possibilidade de não se estar produzir uma imagem com conteúdo propriamente religioso, mas sim uma figura de adoração vazia, oca. Sendo assim, a questão gira em torno de se entender qual a ligação entre o falso, a imagem da televisão e as emissões televisivas que tratam de religião.
