Abstract
This research focuses on the theme of use of force by the Christian and is meant to examine the text of Matthew 26:52 - "Then said Jesus unto him, Put your sword; for all who take the sword shall perish with the sword hand. " Whereas the opinions of theologians are discordant in this regard in order to identify a suitable interpretation was performed the analysis of the text of the historical, literary and semantic aspects of the verse being studied. From this analysis, it was possible to realize that the internal and external evidence related to the verse points to the interpretation that the passage refers to a prohibition against the use of force for religious purposes. The use of force by the state was found that this is a legitimate and needed to maintain the society. In addition, the study goes to show that, for the individual Christian, there is no excuse for violent behavior, even in situations where consideration is justifiable"]
