Abstract
The author of this article takes unpublished archive material to examine the extent to which the Capuchins of Catalunya have an Austrian connection and, more especially, to analyse the gradual theologisation of the War of Succession and the impact of the war on the institutional and community life of the Catalan Capuchins, especially after the end of the war when the brothers – together with the monasteries of Montcalvari (outside Barcelona) and Santa Madrona (at the foot of Montjuic) which were totally destroyed as a result of the siege that the County city suffered – had to resume the Capuchin life in a new political context within a new administrative framework, that of the Bourbons, which was fixed in the terms of the decrees of the new Establishment when, in the years 1707-1716, their own governing bodies were eliminated from the territories that made up the Catalan-Aragonese crown"]
