Abstract
["Sacramentality is the hermeneutic principle of ecclesiology, bearing in mind the ten times that sacrament is applied to the Church in the Second Vatican Council. The term has its roots in ancient tradition, as attested by Cyprian, Tertullian and Augustine, and was taken up in pre-council theology as a challenge to the dominant apologetic vision. As a universale concretum sacramentale, it is to be understood as involving a “relational ontology”, an appropriate hermeneutical category that serves to bring together the two dimensions of mystery and history in the Church (of God, and formed by people; holiness, and the need for purification; a gift of God, and visible mediations…)"]
