Abstract
"As healthcare systems increasingly seek to promote evidence development as a concurrent outcome of clinical care, the sharp distinction between research and care outlined in the Belmont Report is blurring. This is a situation for which there is no historic precedent, and it is increasingly apparent that existing conceptual and ethical tools are insufficiently developed to account for the tensions that arise when clinical care is modified to accommodate the goals of research. Imagining a healthcare system that goes beyond any existing model of research-care integration, this paper explores the ethical plausibility of research-care integration and the ethical questions arising in such a maximally integrated environment"
